Statement from Blackburn Festival Committee
It is with enormous regret that we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Blackburn Festival of Speech, Music and Dance. This decision is in line with the government’s advice and taken to protect the wellbeing of all our competitors, volunteers, adjudicators and supporters.
The Coronavirus is a threat to us all and the Chief Medical Officer’s prediction is that, if the delaying phase is successful, the flattened peak of the illness will continue throughout April, May and June. This is exactly when we planned to hold the five weekends of our Festival.
We are so proud to be part of this fantastic Festival of Dance, Speech and Music but it is the performers, volunteers and supporters who make it so special. Safety is always paramount but never more than in this year, 2020, so hence our message.
However, we will be back in 2021!
Please accept our apologies; we are disappointed too but we do hope you can understand and support our actions. In the weeks ahead we shall reimburse all our entrants, who have paid fees thus far.
